Brief

‘Ember’s Theme - Dawn Variation’

When I chose the “Greeting the Dawn” aspect of Phoenix mythology as the inspiration for our first episode, I was thinking about the visuals and the symbolism it gave us to play with… then it dawned on me (no pun intended) that we had inadvertently set ourselves the challenge of trying to write a piece of music that is described in ancient texts as so beautiful it caused the son god to halt his chariot…

As someone who battles daily with imposter’s syndrome and crippling perfectionism, this is literally a nightmare brief. We’ve basically set ourselves what amounts to an impossible challenge!

I’ve learned that reframing is a powerful tool for quietening these inner foes. So, I’ve chosen to reframe the brief as “compose a piece inspired by music Graham and I find to be beautiful, pieces that we think paint the picture of Ember’s dawn ritual and the Vale of Araluen with sound”.

Below (in the inspiration section) you will find a playlist of these pieces. We hope you enjoy listening to them and that they give you an idea of what we’re aiming to do with this episode’s music score.
