While working through the initial phases of The Vale of Araluen, we have learned a huge amount—gaining not only the technical knowledge and skills we needed, but also a much better understanding of ourselves and how we want to work (you can read more about this evolution in our project production pages). While we both enjoy the challenge and process of creating complex 3D animations, it became clear that we wanted to tweak our creative process to allow more time for hand-drawing and find a way to shorten the time it took to get to the music scoring phase.

Inspired by a beautiful video by one of my favourite artist creators—Jess Karp—I realised that it was enough to simply share some of our projects in storyboard/illustrated story form through my drawings, paintings, and the score. This shift also opened the door to sharing some of our bigger story ideas—projects that would otherwise require at least a small team and far more resources than we have to bring to life as animated films.
